Youth Commission (Yangon Archdiocese) Vision of Youth Commission Youth of the Archdiocese of Yangon are Christ-centered, mature in spirituality and social life, participating and witnessing in the Apostolate, using their talents fully and living an authentic Christian life. Mission of Youth Commission Youth Commission of the Archdiocese of Yangon will organize zones’ youth directors and parish youth groups systematically, will implement programs for spiritual and social formation and youth will work together in solidarity without any discrimination according to the guidance of our faith. Objectives of Youth Commission (Archdiocesan Youth Apostolate - Yangon) (a) To help youth for their integral formation and development by youth formation courses and camps. (b) To deepen the faith and the moral awareness of young people by Liturgy, Sacraments, Prayer, Bible study, giving testimonies, retreats. (c) Together with other religious organizations in the Archdiocese, to participate in the activities of the Church. (d) To strengthen the bond of union among youth of all the parishes in Yangon Archdiocese and deepen their Christian identity (e) To be a Counseling Center for youth who need help Youth Formation Programs of Youth Commission (Yangon) Youth Commission conducts Youth Formation Courses (both in Yangon and district parishes), Camps, Seminars, Monthly Youth Retreats (both for youth in general and for young Catholic workers), Apostolic touring and meetings with district youth, Diocesan Youth Day celebration, fieldtrips, weekend programs, general meetings, Annual Fresher’ Welcome and Farewell Program for University Students, Youth Song Services, Sports activities etc.,. Yangon Catholic Youth have been participating in inter-diocesan joint-activities and national youth Congresses. Our Youth yearly volunteer at National Marian Shrine during its feast. They also volunteer in various Church activities from time to time. There are publications such as Youth prayer book, Song sheets, Newsletters, etc., and Youth religious animation song tapes, VCD recording and distribution. Youth representatives from Yangon Archdiocese have attended World Youth Days from 1985 to 2005, Asian Youth Day at Hong Kong in 2006, also attended the IMCS, IYCS and Fondacio pastoral formation Programs in Malaysia and Thailand. Courses, Camps and Retreats for youth are very helpful in the formation of youth. They strengthen the intellectual, human and social growth process of youth, deepen their Christian identity, set out better cooperation among parish youth, offer basic religious education and deepen their spiritual life. Among the topics of the talks given at Courses and retreats were Morality, Sacred Scripture, Evangelization, Leadership Qualities, Social Communication, Vocations, Marriage, Church History, Biblical Catechism, Report Writing, Listening skills, community life, Drugs and Alcohol, Human Trafficking, Spirituality and Prayer. Professors from Major Seminary, National Youth Director, Pastors and priests, Sisters, guest speakers were invited for talks. Workshops are ‘sharing of parish youth activities’, situation analysis both of University Students’ life and of youth in general and giving personal witnesses. The First Archdiocesan Synod was held in 2004 and Youth Commission of Archdiocesan Youth Apostolate was one of the commissions that were present at the Synod. Youth commission discussed the present situation of our young people and their needs. In September, 2005, during the follow-up pastoral sessions, the commission of the Archdiocesan Youth Apostolate made pastoral planning for five years. The plan consists of … (a) Appointing the Office Clerks at Youth Office and strengthening the structure of Archdiocesan Youth Apostolate. (b) Conducting Youth Camps at Archdiocesan level each year and Zone level from time to time. (c) Meeting and sharing of experiences among youth from district and city parishes. (d) Essay Writing competitions for Easter and Christmas (e) Animate youth with apostolic touring, sports, musical activities, tapes, media and publications. Report of the Youth Formation Programs of Youth Commission ( Yangon Archdiocese ) (March, 2003 to July, 2007) 2003  Youth Formation Camp for delegates of Yangon Archdiocese for the National Catholic Youth Congress, at Holy Innocents’ Church (April 12-17, 2003). The Theme for the Camp was “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” (Luke 5:4). The programs consisted of preparation for NCYC, lectures, general meeting with parish youth leaders (14. 4. 07) and workshops for youth programs.  Participation in the National Catholic Youth Congress (Mobye – May, 2003)  Inter-parish Youth Retreats at St. Mary’s parish (30. 8. 03) and St. Francis’s parish (18.10.03). Preachers were professors from Major Seminary and the topics of talks were Youth and Evangelization, Marriage, Church History, Social Communication, Leadership, Youth and Morality, Vocations and Sacred Scripture.  Apostolic Touring and meetings with district youth (Thonze - 29.5.03, Kyopinkauk- 20.5.03, Pha-do, Nyaunglaypin- 21.6.03, Maupin-15.8.03, Twante, Shwepyitha-24.5.03, Pantanaw) and Yangon parish youth (St. Lazarus-6.9.03, St. Joseph-27.9.03)  District Youth Course No 18 (Pa-an – 14th to 15th Oct., 2003)  Participated in Organization Development Program at CBCM ( 25-30, Nov. 2003 )  Youth Directors’ meeting at CBCM (1-3, Dec., 2003)  Publication of Newsletter No. 1 booklet in June, 2003.  General meetings of Parish Youth Leaders and University Catholic Students every month.  Monthly Team Members’ Meetings.  University Catholic Students’ VCD Karaoke Recording at Bible School, Insein and distribution to the parishes (2003-04)  Christmas Carol Singing  Christmas Gathering and Carol Competition Program at St. Mary’s Cathedral (21.12.03 – 13 Parishes entered the Match, 1st Prize – Epiphany, 2nd- St. Jude, 3rd – St. Francis’s) 2004  Opening of Youth Office at John Paul II Youth and Education Center, 64, Inya Road, Yangon in the first week of January, 2004.  52 AYA youth volunteered at Nyaunglaypin National Marian Feast (Feb. 6-8, 2004)  Taize prayer program with Bro. Ghislain of Taize at CBCM ( 9. 2. 04 )  Exam Mass for 10th Std. Students ( 10. 3. 04 )  Youth Leadership Course ( 27 ) ( March, 2004 ) (97 attendants from 21 parishes, delegates from Pathein Diocese). The Theme was “O come, let us worship the Lord” (Psalm 95:6a)  Inter-diocesean Youth Retreat (Mawlamyaing – April, 2004)  Youth Picnic to Setsae Beach, Kyaikkhame ( 18. 3. 04 )  Youth Evangelization and Formation Program at John Paul II Youth Center. ( Facilitators are Fondacio Members – 11th to 18th , April, 2003) The Theme was “Towards a New Life”. This program helped our youth: - Grow in self-awareness - Find meaning of their lives - Rediscover God - Experience God’s love and healing - Experience a Christian community with joy  Archdiocesan Youth Day Celebration at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Yangon.( 18. 4. 04 ). Youth Mass was offered by His Grace Archbishop Charles Bo and it was followed by cultural dances and entertainment program of the parishes at St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish Hall.  AYA and University Catholic Students’ Advisory Board Meetings  Monthly Follow – up program of Youth Formation and youth retreat on every first Saturday (began on 5. 6. 04).  Action song program for Welcoming Ceremony for His Grace Apostolate Delegate Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio at Archbishop’s House (12. 7. 04).  Team Members Refresher Course (25 – 30, June, 2004)  A.Y. A. Cup Football Program (Rainy Season, 2004) (First Prize was won by St. Francis Xavier’s Parish Youth, Second – Pantanaw and Third – Epiphany). 12 parishes participated in the program and it was facilitated by Seminarians of St. Joseph’s Catholic Major Seminary, Yangon.  A. Y. A. President received spiritual training and prayer experiences at Taize, France from September to November, 2004.  Youth Chaplain and a youth representative from A. Y. A. attended the Pan Asia-Pacific Assembly of IMCS from 20th to 30th October, 2004 at Penang, Malaysia. The Theme was “Towards an alternative Globalization, students with the marginalized”. Youth Chaplain got the opportunity to offer Mass for the immigrant workers there.  Together with Franciscan Aspirants, A. Y. A led the Choir of Holy Mass on the occasion of visit to Myanmar by His Eminence Crescenzio Cardinal Sepe at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Yangon.  District Youth Camps 19 and 20 ( Magyikwin – 21st to 22nd April, 2004 ) (Kyopinkauk – 11th to 13th Aug. 2004)  Meeting with youth of other Christian denominations (Nov. 28, 2004)  Youth Chaplain and two youth representatives of A. Y. A. attended the Second National Youth Forum at Myitkyina from Dec. 1 to Dec. 4, 2004.  A. Y. A. Secretary participated in Asia Pacific Students and Youth Gathering for Ecumenism at Cipayung, Indonesia from 7th to 14th Dec., 2004. The Theme was “Together in Action for Peace and Reconciliation”.  Christmas Carol Singing  Annual Fresher Welcome and Farewell Programs for University Catholic Students 2005  U. C. S. A Fresher Welcome (22nd Jan, 2005) – His Grace Archbishop Charles Bo offered the Youth Mass for University Students. Students from four Dioceses were present at the Mass.  Apostolic Touring No. 49 and meeting with district youth from Thonze parish on 29th Jan, 05. The program consisted of sharing youth activities, lectures, meditation, prayer and sermons.  Youth Mass and monthly youth retreat on every first Saturday.  85 young people volunteered at Nyaunglaypin National Marian Feast and Eucharistic Feast (10-13, February, 2005)  U. C. S. A. religious shop was opened at Nyaunglaypin National Marian Feast.  Youth Leadership Formation Program started in February, 2005 with English Language Class at John Paul II Youth Center.  Preparation Course for Fifth National Catholic Youth Congress at John Paul II Youth and Education Center (9th to 13th, 2005).  Publication of Newsletter No. 3 (March, 2005)  Construction works for new rooms and kitchen at Youth Center.  Participation in Fifth National Catholic Youth Congress (March 30th to April 5, 2005) in Myitkyina. 58 delegates from Yangon Archdiocese participated in the Congress and Youth Commission of Yangon won the first prize of Theme Song “Come, let us worship Him” (Mt.2:2).  A. Y. A. president Mr. Xavier Kyaw Nyunt was promoted to the position of National Catholic youth President by Youth Directors and youth leaders during National Catholic Youth Congress 2005.  Mr. Matthew Aung Naing Lin was elected as new AYA president.  Invited by parish pastor, AYA gave lectures and sessions at youth retreat of St. Theresa’s parish (13-17th April, 2005)  Monthly Team Members’ Meetings.  Invited by pastor, AYA conducted 21st District Youth Camp at Myokaing (Kyopinkauk St. Michael’s Parish) from 20th April to 24th April, 2005). 146 attendants and 12 Team Members participated in it. Fr. James gave Bible Sessions; Sr. Agnes (Good Shepherd) gave lectures on Morality; Team Members Agnes, Florence, Matthew gave lectures on Sacraments, Leadership, Mary in the Bible. There was celebration of St. Joseph’s Feast during Camp (Mass, procession, benediction). The theme of the camp was “Come, let us worship Him” (Mt.2:2).  AYA Chaplain together with Fr. Clay (Jesuit)and Brother Ambrose (De La Salle) participated in Pastoral Formation Program of Fondacio in Kuala Lumpur from 1st May to 8th May, 2005.  Invited by pastor, AYA gave lectures and session during Apostolic Touring No.50 and Youth Gathering at St. Michael’s parish (DaLa – 15th May, 2005) (60 attendants)  Invited by YCCF president, AYA gave lecture and session during Youth Retreat of YCCF at CBCM (17th May, 2005)  Invited by pastor, AYA gave lectures and session during Apostolic Touring No. 51 and Youth Gathering at St. Francis Xavier’s Parish (Thanlin – 22nd May, 2005) (100 attendants) and at St. Michael’s Church (Thonekwa)  AYA gave lectures and Bible session during Apostolic Touring No. 52 and Youth Gathering at Sacred Heart Parish (Hmawbi) on 18th June, 2005. (40 attendants) Young Catholic Workers participated in the session.  AYA sent a youth representative to Capacity Building on CO Training conducted by MCC from 27th June to 1st July, 2005.  Youth from Lashio, Pathein, Taungyi, Loikaw, Kyaingtong, Mawlamyaing, Hakha Dioceses were present at AYA Youth Retreat in June, 2005. (80 attendants). Rev. Fr. Thomas Htoo was the preacher for day. Dr. James Soe Naing gave Health Education HIV.  Preparation for Youth Prayer Book and World Youth Day Trip in July, 2005.  Meeting and Retreat of Young Catholic Workers on 19th July, 2005. 80 attendants. Young Catholic Workers’ Apostolate was founded. E.C. members were elected by votes.  Three youth from AYA attended World Youth Day 2005 in Germany (Aug. 13-25).  Performance of action songs at Archbishop’s house for welcoming ceremony of Archbishop Bressen and 12 priests of Trento Archdiocese (30th Aug. 2005)  Recording of Youth Songs’ Album (Tape) at Studio D.(began in Sep. 2005)  District Youth Camp No 22 at Kyone Pay, Pantanaw village. (9 – 11, Sep.2005)  The Commission of AYA drew the five year plan during pastoral session at Archbishop’s house on Sep 13-16, 2005.  AYA Youth Director and two youth representatives attended the Chaplains and Animators’ Formation Exchange Program CAFÉ 2005 of International Young Christian Students (IYCS) in Assumption Personal Development Center, Bangkok from October 1 to October 8, 2005. The theme was “Log in with students, in faith we build bridges.” On the way, they were able to attend the Eucharistic Congress at the Church of the Risen Christ; visited the College General, the Major Seminary of Penang, Malaysia and Radio Veritas Asia, Manila, Philippines.  YCWA youth retreat at John Paul II Youth and Education Center on 30. 10. 2005.  AYA youth retreat at John Paul II Youth and Education Center on 5th Nov. 2005. Ms. Flora from World Vision gave lecture on Job hunting. Fr. James facilitated the session on prayer.  2006 Calendar with the picture of Pope Benedict XVI was published and distributed in Nov. 2005.  Three representatives from AYA attended the youth ecumenical meeting at YMCA from Nov. 9 to Nov.10, 2005.  AYA Youth for Christ Journal was published on website http://ayaygn.greatestcities.com in Nov.2005  AYA project for 2006-08 was prepared in Nov. 2005.  Recording of Youth Songs’ Album continues in Studio-D in November, 2005.  Preparation for Choir and cultural presentation for the Jubilee Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 27th Nov, 2005.  “Lat Yar Daw” Songs’ CD was distributed on 24th Nov, 2005 during National Pastoral Planning Conference at St. Joseph Major Seminary, Yangon.  Volunteering at St. Mary’s Cathedral for Jubilee Mass on 27th Nov, 2005.  District Youth Formation Camp No 23 at Nyaung Done (28-30, Nov. 2005). About 500 youth from different parishes of Yangon Archdiocese were present at Archbishop’s House. U.C.S.A. 2006 E.C members were elected by vote. • Meeting with Dr. Geiger of Kaad on 27th Feb. • District Youth Formation Camp No. 25 at Pha-do parish from 10th to 13th March, 2006. 14 Team Members and 60 youth from Pha-do and Nyaunglaypin parishes participated in it. Lectures were Prayer, Sacraments, Baptism, Marriage, Mary in the Bible, Leadership Qualities, Youth and Spirituality and Catholic Social Teachings. Lectures were given by Youth Director and Team Members. The Topics of Bible Sessions were “Self-Knowledge” and “Gratitude”. Football match for both girls and boys was done on the second day. There were Benediction, Centering Prayer Meditation and Taize prayer in the evenings. Bible Story Play, 7 minutes talks and Mother Theresa movie were in the night program. • Apostolic Touring No. 53 and Youth Formation Program at Thone Kyaing Village (Maupin Parish) from 24th to 25th March, 2006. Lectures on Prayer, Leadership Qualities and Scriptures were given by Fr. James and Matthew. Meeting with Maupin Youth took place at St. Rita’s parish hall on 25th March, 2006. AYA youth participated in the celebration of the Feasts of the Annunciation and of St. Rita. • Retreat for University Catholic Students at John Paul II Youth Center on 1st April, 2006. Preacher was Fr. Louis, the Spiritual Director for Yangon Archdiocese. • District Youth Formation Camp No. 26 at St. Anthony's Parish, Hton Po Kway (6th April to 9th April, 2006). Lectures and sessions given were Sacraments, Marriage, Biblical Catechism, Leadership Qualities, Self-knowledge and Prayer. • District Youth Formation Camp No.27 at St. Theresa's Parish (Hpa-Pon), Walmidae village from 12th April, 2006 to 16th April, 2006. Lectures on Sacraments, Marriage, Baptism, Prayer, Biblical Catechism, Church, Leadership Qualities, Self-awareness were given. Other programs were Bible sessions, Bible story play, group songs, Taize prayer and the liturgy of the Holy Week. His Grace Archbishop Charles Bo gave a talk on the integral development of Human Person. • Volunteering at St. Joseph’s pre-minor seminary for Jubilee celebration (28-29 April, 2006). • Apostolic Touring No. 54 and youth gathering at Mawlay village, Nyaungdone on 1st May, 2006. • Two youth for Youth Commission were sent to Philippines for Leadership Training Program of Fondacio. • Meeting and volunteering for Youth Camp 12 began on 2nd May, 2006. • Youth Leadership Formation Camp No. 12 at Sacred Heart Church, Hmawbi from 7th May, 2006 to 15th May, 2006. 325 participants (attendants, Team Members and youth volunteers) from 26 parishes (St. Jude, St. Theresa, St. John, St. Mary, St. Francis, St. Michael, St. Lazarus, St. Augustine, St. Anthony, Holy Innocents, Epiphany, Pha-do, Kyopinkauk, Hmawbi, Pha-an, Khammamaung, Nyaungdone, Twante, Phyapon, Theinzaret, Nyaunglaypin, Magyikwin, Pathein, Maupin, Kyauktan, Bokalay, Pantanaw, Nyaunggone) of Yangon Archdiocese, 2 from Mandalay Archdiocese and 5 from Pathein Diocese attended the Camp. The Theme was “As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” (John 20:21) The facilitators were Fr. Bosco Bo Bo,SDB., Fr. Soe Naing, SDB., Fr. Alphonse,SDB., Fr. James. Guest speakers were Fr. Benedict Htay Lwin, Fr. Ko Lay, World Vision, Sr. Agnes of Good Shepherd, Sr. Assumpter of St. Columban, Bro. Ghilam of Taize and Sisters and Brothers of CRM (Vocation talks). • Essay Competition on Easter on 10th May, 2006 during Youth Camp No. 12. 325 youth participated in it. • Archdiocesan Youth Day Celebration on 14th May, 2006 at Sacred Heart Church, Hmawbi. Holy Sacrifice of Mass was offered by His Grace Archbishop Charles Bo and it was followed by Dinner and entertainment. • 10 Team Members and Zone Youth Leaders from Yangon Archdiocese attended the National Youth Course for Introduction to Sacred Scripture and Management at CBCM from May 22 to June 1, 2006. • Retreat of University Catholic Students at John Paul II Youth Center on 3rd June, 2006. • Vocation talk at Sacred Heart Parish, Hmawbi and singing practice for the dedication of Sacred Heart Church on 18th June, 2006. • 10 Team Members and Zone Youth Leaders from Yangon Archdiocese attended the National Youth Course for Introduction to Sacred Scripture and Management at CBCM from May 22 to June 1, 2006. • Retreat of University Catholic Students at John Paul II Youth Center on 3rd June, 2006. • Vocation talk at Sacred Heart Parish, Hmawbi and singing practice for the Dedication of Sacred Heart Church on 18th June, 2006 and 24th June, 2006. • Leading the Choir during the Mass of the Dedication of Sacred Heart Church on 25th June, 2006. • Retreat of University Catholic Students on 1st July, 2006 at John Paul II Youth Center. • Apostolic Touring No. 55, meeting with parish youth and Lecturing on the Introduction to the Sacred Scripture at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Yangon on 9th July, 2006. (30 attendants) • Delegates from Youth Commission of Yangon Archdiocese attended the preparation camp for Asian Youth Day and joined other delegates from different Dioceses of Myanmar from 16th July to 24th July, 2006. • Youth Chaplain, two delegates from Youth Commission of Yangon Archdiocese together with other 12 delegates from Myanmar attended the Asian Youth Day Assembly and celebration at Hong Kong from 25th July to 5th August, 2006. The Theme of the Asian Youth Day was “Youth, Hope of Asian Families”. Over 800 participants from 25 countries attended the meetings, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, exposure, ceremonies, sessions, and liturgical services. • Youth Chaplain and youth delegates also visited the Assumption University of Bangkok. All delegates from Myanmar also visited the Apostolic Delegate His Grace Archbishop Salvatore on 8th August, 2006 and received his blessing. • A student from Kammamaung Parish was accepted to reside at Youth Center for Youth Leadership Formation Program of Fondacio. We was also sent to English Class of Jesuit. The classes began on 1st August, 2006. • Retreat of University Catholic Students on 5th August, 2006 at St. John’s parish. • Meeting of Zone Youth Leaders and Team Members at John Paul II Youth and Education Center on 20th August, 2006. • Apostolic Touring No. 56 and Biblical Catechism at St. Edward’s parish on 27th August, 2006. 50 youth attended the class and the theme song of the 4th Asian Youth Day was taught there. • Retreat of University Catholic Students and Young Catholic Workers at John Paul II Youth Center on Sep. 2nd, 2006. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Lectures and Workshops on the theme, “Youth, Hope of Asian Families” were the retreat programs. • Apostolic Touring No. 57 and Biblical Catechism at St. Francis’s parish on Sep. 3rd, 2006. 25 youth attended the class. • Essay Writing on Christmas at John Paul II Youth Center on 30th Sep. 2006. 20 students participated in it. • Lectures and workshops on Introduction to the Sacred Scriptures were given by Youth Commission at Youth Leadership Formation Program of Fondacio from September 20 to 22. • University Students’ and YCWA retreat at John Paul II Youth Center on October 7, 2006. The Youth Mass for Final Examination was offered during the retreat. Fr. Cecil Bernard was preacher and the topic was Youth Spirituality • Apostolic Touring No. 58 and Biblical Catechism at Htan Tha Pin village of Sacred Heart parish on October 15, 2006. • Four Youth from AYA received Scholarship from APEC (Assumption University, Bangkok) and they were sent there for four years BA Degree program (2006 to 2010). The subjects they are now studying are Administration, Public Communication and English. They left Myanmar on October 16, 2006. • A delegate from Youth Commission of Yangon attended the Ecumenical and Fellowship Program for University Christian Students of different denominations at Wet Ton Chaung village, Thanphyu Za Yet from 23rd Oct. to 30th Oct. 2006. • Singing Practices and leading the Choir during Diaconate Ordination at St. Mary’s Cathedral on 29th October, 2006. • University Students’ and YCWA retreat at John Paul II Youth Center on November 4, 2006. • Apostolic Touring No. 59 together with Children Commission to Htan Tha Pin Town and villages on November 5, 2006. • Yangon Youth Director and two delegates from Yangon Archdiocese attended the National Youth Forum No. 3 and Leadership Programs at Kalay, Hakha Diocese from 13th November to 21st November, 2006. The Theme was “Confident Leaders…called and sent.” • UCSA and YCWA retreat at John Paul II Youth Center on 2nd December, 2006. There was a meeting of Team Members and parish youth leaders after retreat. • Youth Christmas at Archbishop’s House (23rd December, 2006) o Parish youth from different parishes of Yangon have been preparing for Youth Christmas since three or four months before the event. Youth from the parishes of Epiphany, St. John (MTL), St. John (CTM), St. Francis, St. Augustine, St. Edward, Fatima, St. Theresa, St. Gabriel, St. Lazarus, Hlaing Tha Ya, Holy Innocents, St. Joseph and Catholic Chinese Community actively participated in it. The first prize winner for Christmas Choir was St. Lazarus’ parish youth, the second was St. Francis’s youth and the third was Fatima youth. The prizes for Christmas Essay were also given to the youth by His Grace Archbishop Charles Bo. The first winner was Angela Yadanar Ko (Holy Innocents’), the second was Ma Rosa Pauk Pauk (St. Edward’s) and the third was awarded to the aspirants of the Good Shepherd’s Convent. • AYA youth also helped Catholic Chinese Community for their carol singing on December 10th and 17th , 2006. 2007 • UCSA and YCWA retreat at John Paul II Youth Center on 6th January, 2007. Topics of workshops were multiple intelligence and Jesus’ leadership. • Participating in Ecumenical Prayer Programs on 19th January, 2007. • Meeting of Team Members and Parish Youth representatives for volunteering at Nyaung Lay Pin National Marian Shrine on 23rd January, 2007. • The vice-president of AYA (Mr. Henry from Kammamaung) was sent to Fondacio Youth Leadership Formation Program (Yangon) from January, 2006 to April, 2007 and he was selected also for training in Manila, Philippines. He was sent to one year Youth Leadership Formation Program in Manila, Philippines on April 15th, 2007. He will serve Youth Commission of Yangon Archdiocese for two years after his training there. • Fresher Welcome for University Catholic Students (3rd February, 2007) o 140 students from different universities and colleges (both day students and students from distant education) participated in this program. The program consisted of Youth Mass, cultural dances, small group discussion on students’ lives, sharing of experiences, gift exchange, selection of Fresher King and Fresher Queen, social games and election of students’ representatives. • Volunteering of AYA youth (50 youth from different parishes of Yangon) at Nyaunglaypin National Marian Shrine from 8th Feb. to 11th Feb., 2007. • AYA religious article shop was also opened there from 7th Feb. to 11th Feb., 2007. • Second Report of the AYA project was prepared and finalized on 21st Feburary, 2007. • UCSA and YCWA retreat at John Paul II Youth Center on 3rd March, 2007. Special Guest Speaker invited was Rev. Fr. Peter Kim, S.J., and the topic of the lecture and workshop was self awareness. • Keyboard Class was opened for youth at John Paul II Youth Center on 10th March, 2007. The class was from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays till 27th May, 2007. • Meeting with National Youth Director and Canossian Sister (Singapore) for Youth forum (first week of December, 2007) and National Youth Congress (2008) on 13th March, 2007. • Distribution of Bird Flu Health Education Posters (UNICEF) to the parishes of Yangon in March, 2007. • Translation of World Youth Day Message of Pope Benedict XVI to Myanmar. • Apostolic Touring No. 60 and meeting with parish elders and youth of Thone Kyaing Village, St. Rita’s Parish from 19th to 20th March, 2007. Preparation for Archdiocesan Youth Formation Summer Camp No. 13 was done there. • Two AYA Team Members (Cecilia and Monica) came back from Manila, Philippines on 29th March, 2007 after their one year formation program. They will serve the Youth Commission for two years with their training experiences and knowledge that they received in Manila. • Team Members’ Meeting on March 27 and preparation for Youth Camp No. 13 in Feb., March, April, 2007. • Pilgrimage to Theinseik Holy Cross on 29th March, and participation in the ordination Mass on 30th March. • Team Members’ trip to Thone Kyaing village for Youth Camp No. 13 on 12th April, 2007. • Lectures and workshops were given at Phaya Ngoat To Village of St. Michael’s Parish (Da La) on 13th April, 2007. There were 90 attendants from that parish. The topics of lectures and workshops given were Multiple Intelligence, Jesus’ Leadership, Values, Dei Verbum, Marriage and Family Spirituality. • Lectures and workshops were given during youth formation course of St. Theresa’s Parish on 16th April, 2007. There were 60 attendants. The topics given were the same as above. • Archdiocesan Youth Formation Summer Camp No. 13 at Thone Kyaing Village, St. Rita’s (Maupin) parish from April 22 to 30, 2007. The Theme for the Camp is Youth, Hope of Asian Families. The Gospel passage for the Camp is “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13: 34). 275 youth from 27 parishes of Yangon Archdiocese actively participated and the facilitators were Fr. Bosco Bo Bo, Fr. Alphonse, Fr. James, Fr. Benedict Htay Lwin, Fr. Zarni, Fr. Gabriel and Fr. Jerome. The topics of lectures and workshops were Power of Change, Jesus’ leadership, Family, Sacrament of Marriage, Word of God, Multiple Intelligence, Values, Leadership skills, Social Communication, 8th Habit, Literature and Evangelization. Vocation talks were given by Fathers, Sisters, Brothers and catechist of different religious congregations on 25th April. There was benediction and penitential services in every evening. Night programs consisted of seminar on different topics, Group songs on family and John 13:34, Gospel Evangelization shows, Projector show on the life of John Paul II and five minutes talks. • Essay Competition on Family was also made during Youth Camp No. 13. • Archdiocesan Youth Day was celebrated on 29th April, 2007. His Grace Archbishop Charles Bo offered the Youth Mass for all the youth of the Archdiocese of Yangon and it was followed by cultural dances and celebration of Archdiocesan Youth Day. • Team Members’ Fieldtrip to Mandalay Youth Center and Salesian Seminary from 5th May to 12th May, 2007. • A vehicle for Youth Office (Mitzubishi Canter) was bought in June, 2007. • Monthly Team Members’ meetings • Preparation for the publication of “God is Love” Youth Magazine in June, 2007. • Christian Fellowship and Ecumenical Prayer Service at Institute of Medicine II on June 15, 2007. 35 attendants from different Christian denominations (7 are Catholic medical students). • Four youth delegates from Yangon Archdiocese attended the Youth and Employment Workshop program at YMCA from June 28 to 30. • Opening Mass for Youth Leadership Formation Program of Fondacio at Loikaw House on 5th July. Participants (about 30) came from different parts of Myanmar such as Kyaing Tong, Mandalay, Yangon, Myikyina, Kalay, Pathein and Mawlamyaing. • Monthly Youth Retreat at John Paul II Youth Center on July 7. The delegates who attended the Youth and Employment Workshop at YMCA shared their experiences and knowledge that got from meeting with other Christian denominations. The Bible workshop was “Humanity of Jesus and interview with Jesus”. Meeting with Hlaing Tha Ya’s parish youth took place after the retreat. • Meeting of Yangon Youth Commission and National Youth Commission at John Paul II Youth and Education Center on 13th July. Preparation for National Youth Forum and National Catholic Youth Congress VI was done. The proposed place for NCYC is St. Mary Compound, Servite Novitiate, Kyauktan, Yangon. The Theme of the Congress is “Youth, Hope of our Families.” The proposed time is March 30 – to April 6, 2008 (after Easter). Estimate number of participants is about 1500 (including volunteers). 100 delegates from each diocese will be invited. • Meeting with St. Gabriel’s youth and one day retreat at John Paul II Youth Center on 28th July, 2007. The sessions were “The Searching for God”, “Humanity of Jesus”, “Jesus’ Leadership” and “Dei Verbum”. Special guests were Fr. Alex and visitors from Singapore and United States • Monthly Youth Retreat at John Paul II Youth Center on July 7. The delegates who attended the Youth and Employment Workshop at YMCA shared their experiences and knowledge that got from meeting with other Christian denominations. The Bible workshop was “Humanity of Jesus and interview with Jesus”. Meeting with Hlaing Tha Ya’s parish youth took place after the retreat. • Meeting of Yangon Youth Commission and National Youth Commission at John Paul II Youth and Education Center on 13th July. Preparation for National Youth Forum and National Catholic Youth Congress VI was done. • Meeting with St. Gabriel’s youth and one day retreat at John Paul II Youth Center on 28th July, 2007. The sessions were “The Searching for God”, “Humanity of Jesus”, “Jesus’ Leadership” and “Dei Verbum”. Special guests were Fr. Alex and visitors from Singapore and United States. There was a sharing of youth formation experiences from their countries. • Monthly Youth Retreat at John Paul II Youth Center on 4th August. AYA Secretary Monica and Joint Secretary Cecilia, Treasurer Miguael facilitated the morning session. Lecture on the Church History was given by Youth Chaplain in the afternoon. • Team Members and Zone Youth Leaders’ meeting on 18th August at John Paul II Youth Center. Evaluation and planning for future programs were done during the meeting. Archdiocesan Youth Retreat and District Youth Formation Camp at Hpa-an will be conducted in appropriate time after discussion with host pastors. Team Members’ meeting was followed by meeting with Fatima Youth. Transportation for parish youth for monthly youth retreat at John Paul II Youth Center will be taken care by AYA. • Two AYA youth delegates were sent to National Catholic Youth Retreat at Moebye from 25th August to 2nd September, 2007. Two youth delegates from each dioceses joined the retreat there and they also got the opportunity of excursion to Loikaw and Pekhon Dioceses. • Monthly Youth Retreat at John Paul II Youth Center on 1st September. The target parishes were St. Gabriel and Fatima. After youth Mass, team members facilitated the first session. Special Guest speaker Fr. Norman shared missionary experiences and the talks on “the Attitude that attracts success” and “Biblical catechism” were given by Youth Chaplain. The number of the participants in monthly youth retreats varies from 25 to 90, depending on availability of transportation, parish activities and examinations at Universities. • Lectures on “Introduction to the Sacred Scripture” were given by Youth Chaplain at Youth Leadership Formation Program of Fondacio from 3rd September to 5th September, 2007. • AYA Secretary Monica and Joint Secretary Cecilia who came back from Manila after they have finished one year training of Fondacio’s Youth Leadership Formation School, Philippines are now actively participating in the Youth Leadership Formation Program. They effectively facilitated the monthly youth retreat on 6th October. Sessions on awareness and prayer were given by team members and Youth Director. • Meeting and preparation for District Youth Camp (Hpa-an) at John Paul II Youth Center on 2nd November. Youth Director, Team Members and Fondacio’s youth discussed and prepared the programs for the camp. • Meeting with Parish Youth Representatives and Team Members at John Paul II youth center on 3rd November for preparation of volunteering during the consecration ceremony of His Excellency Msgr. Justin. It was followed by Monthly Youth Retreat facilitated by team members and Youth Director. • Zone Youth Formation Course (for Hpa-an Zone and Theinzeik Zone) Date : November 15th to 19th, 2007 Place : St. Francis Xavier’s Church, Thukamein Street, Hpa-an. Theme: “Youth, Hope of our Families” “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13: 34) Forty delegates from parishes of Hpa-an and Theinzeik zones attended the course. Lectures and sessions were Sacrament of Marriage, Family, Word of God, Being a Catholic, Rice Ceremony, Models of the Church, Jesus’ leadership, Multiple Intelligence, Human Trafficking, Prayer, Christian Community, Listening skill and Values. All five youth leaders from Yangon Archdiocese (Roger, Cecilia, Monica, Agnes and Miguael) who have attended the one year youth leadership formation program at Manila, Philippines effectively facilitated this zone youth formation course. Evening programs consisted of Adoration to the Blessed Sacrament, Benediction, Rosary, Stations of the Cross, Bible Story Shows, Seminar, five minutes public talk and VCD show of pro-life and Acts of the Apostles. • Youth Commission of Yangon sent 7 delegates to National Catholic Youth Forum that was held in Yangon from 15th Nov. to 20th Nov., 2007. Together with Yangon youth director, they were able to attend the general meeting of all youth directors and youth delegates from dioceses of Myanmar. Yangon Youth Commission also arranged an excursion trip of all delegates to Twante Assumption Parish and Cathedral of Yangon after the Forum. • 110 Yangon Youth volunteered at the consecration Mass and ceremony of Bishop Justin Saw Min Thide, auxiliary Bishop of Yangon Archdiocese on 1st and 2nd December, 2007. • Monthly youth retreat at John Paul II Youth and Education Center on 5th January, 2008. • Bishops’ Conference has decided to postpone the National Catholic Youth Congress because of the political situation of Myanmar. • Meetings with parish youth delegates and team members for the program of volunteering at National Marian Shrine of Nyaung Lay Pin on 9th Jan. and 26th Jan, 2008. • Monthly youth retreat at John Paul II Youth and Education Center on 2nd February, 2008. • Volunteering of 50 Yangon Parish youth at National Marian Shrine of Nyaung Lay Pin from 7th February to 10th February, 2008. • Meeting with Canossians and team members at John Paul II Center on 17th February, 2008 for the preparation of UCSA Programs and Youth Camp. There will be Archdiocesan Youth Camp from 30th March, 2008 to 5th April, 2008. • University Catholic Students’ Fresher welcome program on 23rd February, 2008 at John Paul II Youth Center. The Theme for the day was Acts 1:8. • Meeting with Pastor, Parish elders, parish youth leaders and team members at Ss Peter and Paul’s Parish for the preparation of Archdiocesan Youth Camp on 27th February, 2008. Discussion consisted of accommodation, food, water, halls and facilities. • Facilitators’ training Program on 1st March, 2008 at John Paul II Youth Center. It was attended by RGS candidates, team members and fondacio’s members. Canossians led the program. The Theme for the Archdiocesan Youth Camp was chosen; “Empowered to love and heal” • Pilgrimage of Team Members to Our Lady of Lourdes’ Church, Kyaiklatt from 1st March to 2nd March, 2008. • Apostolic Touring to villages of Assumption Parish, Twante, from 7th to 15th March, 2008 • Facilitators’ training Program on 22nd March, 2008 at John Paul II Youth Center. • Archdiocesan Youth Camp No. 14 (From 30th March to 5th April, 2008) Theme: “Empowered to love and heal” Acts 1:8 “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses!” Place: Ss Peter and Paul’s Church Facilitators: Canossians, RGS, Fondacio’s Youth and AYA Team Members. Tentative Program President Sabrina (St. Jude’s) and Vice-President John Paul (St. Theresa’s) will be sent to XXIII World Youth Day Celebration at Sydney, AU this year. They will go there together with other youth delegates from dioceses of Myanmar, led by National Catholic Youth Commission. Mr. Henry Kaw Mu Htoo who was sent to One Year Youth Leadership Formation Program of Fondacio at Manila, Philippines will come back to Yangon Archdiocese soon and he will serve the Archdiocese for two years in Youth Commission (Yangon).
